Social Housing Program

The Social Housing Program provides safe and affordable housing to individuals, seniors 55+ and families. This program is intended to serve households with low incomes. Rent is based on gross household income. Income tax returns and pay cheque stubs are typically used to verify gross income. Other official documents maybe needed to verify other benefits or income sources. (see page 3 of the Social Housing Program handbook)

Applicants are eligible for the program:

  •  Are legally allowed to be in Canada
  •  Are not temporary visitors to Canada
  •  Have gross income and assets below program limits. *
  •  Able to live independently (may include support from family, the community or other agencies)

The rent is based on 30% of the gross monthly household income (minimum and maximum rents apply)*.

* excludes the Senior Housing Program 

Families

Our family housing units are available in Nipawin under the Social Housing Program for families with children under the age of 18.

Applicants must provide a recent rental history, including landlord references and must be eligible to have utilities connected.

For families, social housing is intended to allow families to improve their economic circumstances so they will be able to afford housing in the private market.

Seniors +55

Senior Housing is available in Nipawin, Codette and White Fox for individuals who are 55+ under two programs; the Senior Social Housing Program and Senior Housing Program.

1. SENIOR SOCIAL HOUSING PROGRAM

This program provides comfortable rental housing in Nipawin, Codette and White Fox to seniors who are 55+ with low income.

Income and Asset limits are outlined as follows:

  • Single seniors maximum income is $42,600 and for couples $51,700
  • Maximum assets of $300,000 will also apply

2. SENIOR HOUSING PROGRAM

This program provides comfortable rental housing in Nipawin, Codette and White Fox to seniors 55+ regardless of income or assets.

Rent is based on the current maximum rent set by the Saskatchewan Housing Authority of $795 for a 1 bedroom unit and $940 for a 2 bedroom unit.

Singles & Couples Under 55

(Without Children)

Housing for Singles and Couples without children is available in Nipawin as part of the Social Housing Program with housing in a Senior designated building.

Applicants must provide a recent rental history, including landlord references.
